Our Story

Tempo Construction was formed in 1985 by Gerald Scaplen and Terry Scaplen. Gerald Scaplen had spent many years previous to the formation of Tempo Construction building various commercial, institutional and industrial building thoughout Newfoundland and Labrador.
Tempo Construction’s main focus has always been on design build projects for it’s customers, many of whom become repeat customers of the company. The design build process involves Tempo Construction taking a clients building requirements from the conceptual stage all the way through to the final building completion. The main advantage to this process is the speed of project delivery and cost effectiveness.
Tempo Construction uses various partners such as Architects and Engineers to design and monitor the building construction to ensure a successful project.
In 2001 Gerald Scaplen semi-retired and Terry Scaplen became President of the company.

Terry Scaplen – President brings to Tempo Construction over 25 years experience in the General Contracting Field. He is a Certified Engineering Technologist with the Association of Engineering Technicians and Technologists of Newfoundland and a Gold Seal Certified Project Manager – General Contracting with the Canadian Construction Association. He is a Past – President with the Association of Engineering Technicians and Technologist of Newfoundland, Past National Director with the Canadian Council of Technicians and Technologists and PastChairman of the General Contractor Section – Newfoundland and Labrador Construction Association.

Gerald Scaplen

Gerald Scaplen brings to Tempo Construction over thirty years experience in the General Contracting field. First working with Allied Construction, then as a founding member of Beck Construction with which he held various positions up to Vice- President before leaving to start Tempo Construction in 1985. He is Past Chairman of the Newfoundland and Labrador Construction Association, Past Vice President – Newfoundland on the Canadian Construction Association, sat on various committee’s with the construction association including the General Contractor Section Committee CCA, CCA Environmental Committee, The Industrial Adjustment Services for the Construction Industry for Newfoundland including the IAS sub committees for Certification and Licencing of Contractors and Finance Committee.
